Sustainability at ITP
The development and use of interactive technlogies places heavy demand on our environment, from the chemicals and materials used to fabricate electronics to the power used to run server farms, and much more. This site is intended as a resource to help find ways to deal with this. Specifically:
- What are the resources which we rely on and consume in the course of our work?
- How many of those resources are renewable?
- How many of them can come from sources considered "waste" by someone else?
- What are the wastes which we produce?
- How many of them can be considered resources by someone else?
What partnerships can we build so that materials and products no longer of use to others are put into use by us, and vice versa, so as to widen our technological and biological ecology?
- How can we re-design our working and living habits such that what we use and what we make reaches a better balance, and leaves our environment better than it was when we started?
- How can we change the way we do things in order to achieve a better balance?
This is mainly a community resource for students and faculty at ITP. You'll find links and information on

- waste generated in production, and suggestions for reduction or reuse;
- reading material on a wide range of issues related to sustainable development;
- organizations and people that are attempting to bring about change;
