Public Space and Sustainable Development: The Future of an Old City

Fri., Oct. 27, 6:30 p.m. $8.
Theresa Lang Center, 55 West 13th Street 2nd floor.

As the distinction between commerce and leisure is increasingly blurred, public space has morphed into a structure that is semi-private, semi-governmental and facilitates both commerce and entertainment. The New School's Tishman Environment and Design Center, Vera List Center for Art and Politics, and Department of Humanities present a panel discussion that considers how sustainable design has been deployed in contemporary public space through developers' initiatives and government subsidies. Moderated by Joel Towers, associate provost for Environmental Studies and director, Tishman Environment and Design Center, panelists include architects Amale Andraos and Dan Wood of WORKac, New York; Miodrag Mitrasinovic, associate professor of architecture, Parsons The New School for Design; John Krieble, director, Office of Sustainable Design, City of New York Department of Design and Construction; and Victoria Marshall, adjunct assistant professor of architecture at Columbia University, Urban Design Program.
