[[http://www.dott07.com/go/dott-blog|DOTT07 SCHOOLS PROJECT]]

More than 200 UK schools have been invited to measure the ecological and
carbon footprints of their school day. They will record everything from
how far their food has travelled before it hits their plates, to how
they get to school, and how much energy and water is used to heat and
clean their classrooms. The Dott07 project includes characters who are
named after the core themes: Aqua, Recycle, Energiser, Eco and Consumer.
Next year the best 50 schools will design ways to make their
footprint smaller.

'''[[http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/09/your_phone_is_c.php|Your Phone is Charged. Please Unplug Your Charger Now]]''' -
Thanks to the decision of a mobile industry task force led by Nokia, you might be hearing these words from your cell phone next year. The members of the task force, a project of the European Commission (EC), agreed to include audio alerts on the cell phones they make that will remind people to unplug their charger once a phone is fully charged. According to the final report, If 10 percent of the world's cell phone owners did this, it would reduce energy consumption by an amount equivalent to that used by 60,000 European homes per year."

Teresita Cochran is looking for an intern for her new company, SMIT:

SMIT:
We are a company that was started out of a thesis project in Spring 2005 from ITP, called Sustainably Minded Interactive Technology (SMIT). Our focus is on creating sustainable products that lessen man's impact on the environment. The first product that we are working on is called "GROW", a hybrid solar and wind panel that takes the form of ivy growing on the side of a building. We have only made visual prototypes thus far, but have just received a grant to build an actual working prototype. We are looking for an intern who might be able to help us with some of the electronics, programming and durability testing of the prototype. We are ideally looking for someone who:
* is interested in hardware programming and electronics
* is interested in sustainability (or willing to explore the ideals)
