O2 NYC A professional organization of designers in New York who are practicing sustainable methods.

EnterpriseWorks A non-profit organization that fights poverty in the developing world through business development programs that allow small agricultural producers and other entrepreneurs to increase their productivity and incomes, pursue sustainable business opportunities, and create jobs that benefit their families, communities and regions. My buddy used to work at this company and I did some graphic design for them, they are based out of Washington D.C. They have developed some very interesting self-sustaining businesses in places with struggling economies.

Earth Matters at NYU Earth Matters is a student club at NYU dedicated to environmental issues. Their homepage has more info about them, including when they meet and how to join.

IDSA's Ecodesign site The Industrial Design Society of America's EcoDesign site includea a number of useful links, including some good readings under their Okala courseware section. Thanks to Wendy Brawer for the link.

Northeastern Permaculture - a listing of permaculture groups in the five boroughs.

Solar One is 'the City's first solar powered “Green Energy, Arts, and Education Center.'" Their goal is to increas community awareness of how to live a more ecologically sustainable lifestyle. They host educational seminars with useful information for individuals, families, and organizations. They also have a solar powered film series and a summer music and arts series. Thanks to Jamie Allen and Teresita Cochran for the link. They are also looking for artists to do installations for their next round of events next summer and may be able to provide funding.

Earth Pledge is a new york based non-profit that grew out of a United Nations committee. They have published a series of Sustainable Cities White Papers. Their initiatives include projects around green roofs, sustainable fashion, waste to energy (anearobic digestion), and food.

Social Venture Network

Slow Food USA is the American chapter of a worldwide slowfood movement, advocates and activists promoting and educating on sustainable food practices and regionally focused, small-scale food production.

The University of Vermont has a program in Ecoinformatics. From their website: "Ecoinformatics is the science of information in Ecology and Environmental science. It aims to a synthesis of the sciences of the environment and of information that defines the entities and processes of natural systems in a language that both humans and computers can process. Data about natural systems are heterogeneous, scattered and uncoordinated. Ecoinformatics aims to facilitate environmental research and management by developing ways to not only access, but also integrate databases of environmental information and computational services such as predictive models, analytical, and planning tools."
