stakes: I'm interested in respectful, thoughtful relationships, and in responsibility and awareness. I don't want to see us turn into a society of jerks who have no concept of the effect we have on the world around us. I get frustrated by ending up in a position where I consume more than I create. I feel weird about not knowing where my food comes from, how the things around me are made, and what impact my actions have. I want to participate in a solution, but I don't want to use guilt as a motivating factor.

annoyances: Plastic bags drive me nuts. Paper bags too, but especially plastic. They are everywhere and hard to avoid, and have somehow become my personal icon for excess and waste. Since moving to the city, I've sunken back into a hole of waste and disposal and am not sure how to rectify it. The men at the deli get annoyed with me when I say I do not need a bag or napkins for my coffee because it disrupts their efficiency. But then I realize I am still drinking coffee out of paper cups everyday, which is something I never used to do...
