Kunali'm just going to put project idea notes here. feel free to run off with them, but try talking to me about them first! i'm meronkun@gmail.com structures that erode exaggeratedly sensitive to pollution, 5 year compression visualization of 100 years of doom
a visual pretour of our impending doom.
a self destructive symbol of the permanence of civilization (pyramid)
ideally one that seems like it might not necessarily destroy itself, because its speed in its trajectory at any moment essentially an indicator of the now. although it only has one direction.
the message is maybe incorrect. maybe the message should be of adaptive growth.
internet view -> maybe it is a virtual reality structure, even maybe in WoW.
rather than being a local problem, the problem is a global problem, so perhaps if it was virtual, it would just be a virtual visualization of global data.
or local architecture built to destroy itself as a result of local pollution and toxins.
compression of long long pyramid idealistic view of civilization timescale into modern human timescale of five to ten years.. but still a long scale process.
alternatively, an entire virtual world responsive to environmental indicators.
alternatively, a global tomogatchi or nintendog
cooking rats project humans consume a lot. either as food for their bodies or food for their appliances. we consume mountains and landscapes for electronics, and we consume whatever for food, and we consume rivers, and whatever.
fine. i just want to ask then - what should we be consuming?
can we base lifestyles around what we SHOULD be consuming, sort of fit into our environment by choice? make products and lifestyles based on those rules?
that might come with localization, which was my abstract basis for this idea.
local consumption usually has a prohibitive cost compared to mass production and transportation mode.
one way to cut through that cost is to consume what is already there, without even artificial farming.
but i feel like we've reached a time definitley, in teh city, where the natural environment contains all the junk we keep away from ourselves. in other words, we cant but rely on artificial manufacturing of our food. rats consume the things that we keep away from ourselves --- and we do that for a reason, and we dont want to join that cycle voluntarily. i might be afraid of eating things growing in our soil for that matter, as well. so there goes the fitting into environment by voluntary choice in consumption model.
on the other hand,
the idea behind that conversation is that being environmentally sound is to FIT IN with your ecology. that is, we as humans must have behavior that is naturally good for our surrounding systems and for which we receive a lot of payback in resources by way of some chain of effects of our actions, some sort of equilibrium. i want to look into identifying and amplifying these behavior.
