Blurb

draft for reCharge Blurb w context

It started with an observation. They are everywhere. In our trashcans, tucked in corners, and abandoned on tabletops. Coffee Cups. They are best and worst of the daily grind.

Andrew Schneider, a graduate researcher at Interactive Telecommunications Program, made an observation that lead to THROW CLOSE, a project inviting the community at ITP to consider the remnants of their coffee habits.

Throw Away: To throw something away means to get it out of sight, and subsequently out of mind.

THROW CLOSE -- the object is kept and alternate uses are found for it. Use the coffee cups to create visual of trash we produce and start a dialogue for alternatives to throwing away. A station was set up in the main lounge of ITP. The purpose of the station was to collect coffee cups instead of them being throw in the trash. The coffee cup “week” ended up lasting the entire semester.

The pile of cups kept growing and have resulted in these manifestations: <Picture of Bucky Ball> name of project

It's time to MAKE with all those coffee cups collected this semester! Here's a great trash hack design challenge you can be a part of. We know some great ideas for all those cups and lids have been percolating and it's time to show us what you've got.

Two ITP alums and brilliant workshop leaders will share their skills and we'll all make some creations together. Solar powered Mod Lights with Jeff Feddersen (Eyebeam Residency, Habana Labs)

reFashioned cozies with Giana González (Hacking Couture, Eyebeam Workshops)
