Description
Reputation systems and recommender systems, which are highly accepted in the online world as a trust building mechanism, offer a valid platform for the exchange of information and goods. In my thesis I argue that by harnessing the personalization and location sensitive advantages of the cell phone, such systems could gain a more granular filtering of dissimilarities and better matching results among users. This solution will then offer a new way for coordinating and grouping individuals who are looking to exchange their common knowledge within a community of people who share the same personal preferences both in cyber space and in the real world.
Personal Statement
Realizing that my strength lies in the social interaction rather then computer interaction, I came to ITP with the expectation to explore and find new technological ways of bringing people together. I believe one of the most precious opportunities life gave me was to meet so many interesting people from the ITP community and to be able to share with them my thoughts, learn from them and get to know them for who they are. This has also been my five years experience living in New York, and this is what I am determined to cherish and pursuit in the scope of my thesis. In an attempt to find a way to extend this experience I turn to technology to find the solution.
Equipped with new intellectual tools to observe my surroundings I am intrigued with the idea of interactivity and its effect on our self-perception in a global society. This relationship between Psychology and Technology, I hope to further explore down the way. At the time when I decided to leave behind a promising career in a leading advertising agency and take the path less traveled, I got a good advice from my boss – at the end of the day, he said, life is all about the people you surround yourself with. A few years later I am taking up his advice and implement it in my projects.
