The 41st Day: A Documentary Web-Comic

Teresa Porter

The 41st Day is a documentary web-comic following the story of one woman's experience fleeing Iran.

the 41st day

Description

An exploration in narrative, the 41st Day is the story of a Nadereh Fanaean's experience fleeing her country Iran due to her political involvement against the Post-Revolutionary regime. The story of her journey out of Iran will be presented on the web in comic form combined with excerpts of audio, as Nadereh's voice will narrate/ guide the viewer through her experience.

Personal Statement

I have many friends who are immigrants to the United States and they have very rich stories about their experiences leaving their country. I wanted to explore bringing those unique experiences in comic form on the web, combined with audio of the actual person telling their story. This project will allow me to experiment with presenting a dynamic and compelling narrative using both audio and illustrations to guide the viewer.

Audience

My target audience are people interested in documentaries, immigrants, and people who like comics.

User Scenario

An ideal scenario would be for one viewer to go through the web-comic I have created and navigate through the site/ narrative easily and find both the audio and illustrations complimentary and compelling to create a rich narrative for the viewer to experience.

Implementation

I will create illustrations and small animations synced to audio of a particular story to be viewed in an online flash website.
