Hypothetical Drawings
Demetrie Tyler
Software generated large-format drawings based on conversational language culled from the web.

Description
Algorithmic and generative strategies are great for producing complex, beautiful, often emergent patterns that, in the best cases, shed new light on the natural world. But what about the human world? With few exceptions, human themes, social patterns, cultural issues, and the evident human hand are conspicuously absent from generative art. I've created software that utilizes the web as a vast storehouse of recorded human experience to produce social landscapes using a set of generative drawing algorithms.
Personal Statement
I've long held a suspicion that my favorite work, the books, films, and drawings that I've developed long-standing personal relationships with, are not necessarily "great" work, but are instead more like vessels for me to pour all of my own meaning into. I'm interested in using computational media to free myself from the deterministic nature of traditional art making, and to be able to allow other inputs (other people, randomness, iteration) into my own artistic process.
