i used txtMob when i worked here at the RNC doing video stuff.
it was a great tool for mobilization and keeping yourself informed.
during the RNC, i kept hearing of places to avoid or to flock to (because people were getting arrested)
txtMob is an app that works like a bbs (bulleting board service).
when you sign up, you can either join a group or create your own.
a group has three different modes -
public ** anyone can join and send messages anytime
private ** group admin sends messages
secret ** members join by invite only
for the purposes of organized anarchy, it works fairly well.
i remember during the "Inauguration" of this sham of a presidency, there were protesters using this app to decide exactly when/where they would storm the gates. it worked very well according to them. they sent out a txt. of 3.. then 2... then 1... then go! all hell broke loose - seconds later there were txt messages being sent "pepper spray / penn. ave" if only coppers were smart enough to sign onto this - i wonder if they did......
if i were to change something, i would an archive of messages.
i suppose keeping a long list of archived txt messages might get anarchists in trouble, but having the option to do so would be a nice idea.
txt apps - in my eyes should have complimentary functionality on the web and on the phone.
the web should enhance the mobile experience and vice versa.
other than that, i think it does exactly what it needs to do.
