Big Screen Syllabus

Class 1: Meet at ITP, Friday, Sep 7, 12:30pm - 3:00pm

Class 2: Meet at ITP, Friday, Sep 14, 12:30 - 3:00 pm

  • Storyboard discussion and critique session
  • 10 minutes per project
  • Homework: Develop one visual sample to look at on the video wall. Follow these instructions: FirstTime-F12 (Note this is really meant for Week 4 where you will have large block of time to work at IAC. We will only look at a quick visual sample, 2-3 minutes per project. In two weeks, you'll have 2 hours.)

Class 3: Meet at IAC, Friday, Sep 21, 12:30pm - 3:00pm

  • IAC Presentation
  • Viewing of last year's projects
  • Viewing of class visual samples.
  • Homework: Prepare a 3840x1080 prototype of your project to test at IAC. Build it in such a way that you can test lots of variation visually (white background vs. black background vs. patterned background, etc). Make your project available on Dropbox and, as a backup, bring it to IAC on a thumb drive. More details: FirstTime-F12 Here is the schedule: IACSignUp1-12

Class description

  • This class is dedicated to experimenting with interactivity on large-scale screens. Students will develop one project over the course of the semester, culminating with a showing at InterActiveCorp’s 120 X 12-foot video wall at their corporate headquarters on 18th and the West Side Highway. A mock-up of the system will be available at ITP for testing. Class time will be divided between independent project development, critique, technical demonstrations, and field trips to IAC. Group projects are encouraged and students should be comfortable programming in Java and Processing.

Reading

  • Readings will be provided from time to time via the class mailing list. Students are also encouraged to suggest relevant readings via the mailing list.

Requirements:

  • The final project itself
