I couldn't find many places to observe a globe. I managed to find a bookstore in my neighborhood that sells them, but no one seemed to notice them, which makes me think that globes as a useful object are somewhat obsolete. New technology has relegated them to a hobby or collector's item.
I found a few interactive globes online, but they were way too expensive for the additional functionality they added versus maps online.
Therefore, my focus has shifted from making a globe with improved functionality, to a globe with some cool new features:
- motor to rotate flat atlas (improves readability)
- magnification
- lights!
I'm still fluctuating between a world map and a map of the planets, stars, moons. I'm a little afraid if I do the latter, it will seem like a cheap planetarium.
