Phys Comp - Week 1

Rainy Day

The computer lab still hadn't received the packets for the class, but I'd payed in advance for mine, so they let me grab the motherboard (now named Lucille). The rest I had to get at Radio Shack. The salesguy was nice but completely unhelpful. I ended up w/a plug I probably will never need. Now I'm debating returning it. It was only $4, but still ...

2 Lights!

I needed some assistance from John Schimmel (research asst extraordinaire), but managed to learn how to sauter my power adaptor and make two leds light up.

Button Switch!

I had this backwards for a few moments. Turns out I had both the power and ground wires on the right column w/the power flow, so the lights would turn off when the button was held down, but really the entire motherboard was just being short circuited.
These photos show the corrected version.

Off on left. On w/button pressed on right.

Dimmer!

This was fun to sauter. You can't see, but the one on the far right is nearly perfect, no bump.
Fancy.

Dim on left, bright on right.

LED Series ...

So I managed to get two of the leds to light up, but the one in the middle would not cooperate. I heard from an alum that it's impossible - Lucille doesn't get enough power to light all three. True/False?
