簡潔なバブル経済学 (A Brief Lesson in Bubble Economics)

I began this book by looking at the bellows of my old Polaroid Land Camera. I thought it might be fun to try to take that accordion mechanism and incorporate it into a book somehow. After making a prototype I realized that I could easily make it into an air pump by adding two one-way valves on on each end so that air could be let into the bellows from one side and forced out the other.

I originally had the idea of making the most boring pop up book imaginable… a pop up book that  illustrated basic economic principles like supply and demand to the more labyrinthine like the derivatives market, but after my wife and I hosted a surprise birthday party for a friend attended by many Japanese friends who made improvised party poppers from inflated plastic shopping bags I was inspired in two ways; A book illustrating the Japanese Bubble Economy (バブル経済) using an inflated bag that would eventually pop from over inflation:
