Making Pop Up Books – 2 to 3 Page Book

Sublinear

As my first pop-up book I began by experimenting with V-folds, understanding the maximum achievable height for tower-like structures. I soon realized that 4 equally spaced towers were the outer edges of what could be a solid but collapsible box.

I then realized that successive boxes of the same design could be nested.

Soon I realized that, if the boxes were maximized for volume, the cumulative progression of scale was an interesting  sublinear curve. In this way I felt that the book’s content and theme, as abstract as it is, emerged from its structure naturally.
