Every object, in every scene of a movie has been carefully picked and placed. But once the narratives unfold and the camera angles are determined, the innocent props are forced into complete anonymity, if not erasure. "Backdrops" attempts to repair this longstanding injustice by shifting the viewer’s attention and empathy towards these individual objects.This tribute takes the form of a series of hand drawn animations, each reiterating a shot of a film, but only reproducing a particular element of the set to go along with the soundtrack. This project was created with hand held screens in mind - the shift in video size and in the physical interaction between the viewer and the screen, echoes the alteration of the shot’s focus. The process of hand drawn animations gives more gravitas to the chosen objects - in a way, attesting that time and care were allotted to them.
