The design changed a bit. Added a new fragment between the two original pieces. Got my hands on a marble sphere that I’m going to cast for the center piece. And did a lot of sanding. Results below.
The images below are from my first day at the Modern Art Foundry. The finished piece will be made of bronze, about 15″ high by about 5″ wide. Started with sketches, then moved quickly on to foam. Then coated the foam in a mixture of plaster, water, and wood glue.
Next week, sanding and shaping.

I have been given an incredible opportunity. Through the Fantasy Fountain Fund Inc., I and a few other ITPers will be taking a 10 week sculpture class at the Modern Art Foundry. The Foundry is an 80 year old bronze sculpture foundry out in Queens. They poured the Alice in Wonderland statue in Central Park for Pete’s sake.
At the end of the ten weeks we will have a 15″ high bronze statue of our own design, I can’t wait.
