SOUNDSCAPE DESCRIPTION

In brief:

This soundscape wants to be a sentimental manifestation of longing and disorientation. I here combined iconic samples of stereotypical Italian daily-life with a “synthetically” recreated silence. Silence in fact is an extremely recurring element inside the typical exile’s experience, with its oppressive as well as comforting. The space that the sounds map out is an unattended furnished Italian apartment. In 1957, the first carousel of Italian commercials -Il Carosello- appeared on TV with a haunting jingle that became the sonic point of reference for entire generations. This piece in part intends to give a voice to all those appliances and electronics that inhabit a space even when there is no human interaction involved.
