This demo shows how unpredictable the 3D space location can be. Notice that the white rects are drawn exactly where you'd think- one's at 10,30, and the other one is at the mouse location. The red rects are moved, or "translated", back 500 pixels on the Z axis, but otherwise are identical in size and XY placement to the white rects. Notice they are smaller, because they are farther away, and also in a different screen location than the 2D coordinates would dictate.
