This week’s assignment was to use a learning algorithm to identify camera input. I used the histogram method, which can identify things by looking at the color values. I was really interested in incorporating motors and physical computing into the project. As I thought about what kinds of objects to differentiate between, I kept coming back to the idea of creating some kind of automated protective device when something threatening or invasive presents itself.
This led to the idea of creating a veil of privacy that is activated when the wearer is receiving unwanted attention. I built a very preliminary prototype to illustrate the concept and function. Moving forward, the device would be wireless. A small camera worn in a pin or pendant to detect the unwanted pursuer. The motors and microcontroller would be built into the clothing collar.
