Proposal What is interactivity? Many people think it is very hard to explain. However, we don't think that it is difficult to define. We can experience the interactivity through our daily life. Even through a simple action like turning a light, a person can experience the interactivity between the personĄ¯s finger and the light. Interactivity always exists in our life, but people just can't notice it. We want to show the interactivity between people and technology though our final project. We have been interested in video installation and physical computing, so we want to combine these together for our final project. Through the project, we want people to experience and feel the interactivity between people and technology. Virtual flower is a video installation that is designed for children. It is a combination of visual display and sound effect. It can be displayed in public space like children's museums or galleries. Most children are fascinated by doing things physically. They are not satisfied with just seeing things. Children always want to actually touch things and get the feel of those with the skin. Due to these, we came out with this Virtual flower which can accomplish the childrenĄ¯s expectation. They can physically interact with the Virtual flower and get the visual and aural feedbacks. Description Virtual flower incorporates physical experiences and virtual world. It is an interactive audio and video installation which is a combination of image processing and physical computing. There is a board that people can step on. People can give a physical input by doing the stepping and it controls virtual flowerĄ¯s motion and sound. Through this piece, people can experience various senses such as seeing, feeling and hearing. Implementation People step on the playing pad and people can animate flowers and play music with their weight.
