The Rest of You

Obectives:

  1. Examine your existence.
  2. Build tools for this examination, developing physical computing and programming skills in the process.
  3. Develop a final project that attends to the rest of you.

Week 1 September 14: Illusion

  • What is the Rest Of You
  • Illusions: Visual, Tactile, Temporal, Consciousness, Free Will, Existence
  • Structure of the course
  • Student Introductions
  • Examples: Examples
  • Reading:  Visual Illusions, Consciousness Illusions , Free Will
  • Assignment: Analog input from Arduino to Processing

Week 2 September 21:  In and Out

  • What was your day really like?  Get an objective picture of your day using light, gravity, sound, image, temperature.
  • How are you really feeling? Get reading from unconsciously controlled reactions sweat, breath, temperature, electical, posture, heart, sound, subliminal input,eeg
  • Sending Multiple Sensors, File IO, Error Catching
  • Assignment: Collect data from one outwardly turned and one inwardly turned sensor and write them to a file. blog it in the “In and Out” Category
  • Reading: Flow 2, Seligman 2, Gilbert, Power of Now

Week 3 September 28: Show Data

Week 4 October 5: Wear it

Week 5 October 12: Mobile Logging

Week 6 October 19: Watch Your Language

Week 7 October 26;  Analysis

Week 8 November 2: Midterm Show

Week 9 November 9: Collective Unconscious / Research Presentations

Week 10 November 16: Eyes Sleep/ Research Presentations

  • Assignment: Blog Entry for your final Project Proposal.
  • Illusion Blogging.  You should write something shorter than 1500 words about existential computing.  You can write anything that will help you collect your thoughts.  It should not just be a project proposal but you can incorporate project ideas.  Here are some questions to help you get started.  Due Nov 20.
