I wanted to take advantage of this time to get a little bit into popcorn.js, and also start with mongodb. My idea was to have a simple system for users to comment on an instructional video, however, their comments would be tied to a range of time in the corresponding video. Their comment (and ideally all of their comment’s replies/sub-comments) would load at the desired time, and disappear after their time has past. This allows the static elements of the page to be tied to the content in the video, and would also help people anser their in-the-moment questions while watching a video. If someone else has already had whatever question you are have during an instructional video, their question and all the attached answers/responses would come up during that portion of the video.
Here’s the link. It is SUPER rough, but after a few hours of poking I got comments to appear and vanish.
Also, don’t go to any of the other videos that have been uploaded. They were tests, and I couldn’t figure out how to get mongo to delete database entries. So, just add your own vimeo link, comment on it, and bask in the time-based glory.
