Google Hangouts + Youtube = Russian Alphabet

I’ve been building up a WordPress site for Russian language learning: itp.nyu.edu/~yp541/learn_russian. For our last assignment, I created videos for learning the Cyrillic alphabet: a general overview of all 33 letters and individual videos for each letter (I only got through 10 letters so far).

For a group discussion, I wanted to create a set of Google+ Hangouts where students could come together, watch the videos I created using a Google+ Hangout Youtube App, and practice/converse. The Youtube app allows for all participants to watch a Youtube video or entire playlist in real-time. The hangout can be broadcast publically and recorded as a Youtube video.

I installed a WordPress Widget called Yakadanda to make scheduled hangouts appear in the blog’s sidebar. When all goes well, the future hangouts should appear in the Widget with a date and a countdown to the next event.

Unfortunately, after 2+ hours of troubleshooting, I am still getting a connection error. If anyone has positive experiences working with a Google API, please let me know!
