Job descriptions and necessary skills are currently changing faster than ever, often due to the rapid advancement of technology. This is clear here at ITP, where the “it” thing to learn changes almost weekly and at least monthly. We are lucky here because the program is focused on following these changes and innovating to be on top of the trends. For many traditional universities, curricula are much more rigid and slower to change to match industry. I would like to look at ways to create more effective and faster communication between industry and the education system that helps to get soon-to-be job searchers the specific skills desired by employer organizations. Linked-In has a Skills and Expertise beta section on their site that is starting to address this but doesn’t yet give a simple way to match employee to desired skills to employers….this is what I’d like to work toward.
