I had a test session with a math tutor in Korea (aka my mom) via Google Hangout.
Here is my screen recording of Learning Trigonometry in Korean. It’s a bit long AND it’s in Korean so you might not want to watch the whole thing but from 23:00, I show trial and error incidents.
The reason why I chose Google Hangout was because it had the best platform for one on one conversation/interaction.
I tried UStream, a live streaming tool (you can watch my embarrassing trial and error here) but this method was more lecture oriented and I felt super awkward talking to a computer camera.
With the test session via Google Hangout, I learned what needs to be improved and what was missing.
- A student can still be distracted and browse Internet without a teacher knowing.
- Current tool to write digitally is uncomfortable. A teacher is much more faster and relaxed writing on a white board or an actual paper.
- With a current setup, a teacher cannot look at the student when he/she is writing on a white board.
- Would be nice to have an option to stream it live so other students can audit.
Overall, Google hangout experience was very pleasant. I wish to develop a plug-in or an app based on Google hangout platform.
