I felt invigorated, yet defeated by uncertainty, in regard to our first session.
Examining “the rest of me” is a task that fascinates me. Until adolescence
(14 y/o), I used to be a sleepwalker. One night, during a sleepwalking trance,
I woke up for a few seconds. I wasn’t in my bedroom but in the study room.
I realized that I was sleepwalking. Somehow, I was aided by technology: I turned on a
stereo. Once I realized what I was doing, my delta waves were paused for a few seconds.
Then, in my way to bed, I felt asleep again. This was the last event I (or anyone else
in family) recall of myself as a somnambulant.
Then, I had other experiences that had a deep impact in my behavior and reasoning.
I have to say that I am enchanted by the way language operates in our lives, in our
biological development and utter perception. Some of the work that I am going to engage
during this course will be related to language, memory and self-awareness through
meditation.
Soon after the class, I went to Strand and acquired the book “Reading in the Brain”,
recommended by Dan. This is an extraordinary and quite readable tome that extends the
understanding of our brain and explores every aspect of the act of reading from a
biological/neurological standpoint.
