I’m working on a Facebook/Twitter app that parses out information that we freely give up about ourselves to understand our networks a little better. So far I’ve managed to get an idea the gender make up of my Facebook friends (53% male, 43% female, 4% undefined). If all my undefined friends are women, then I’d still have an uneven portion of men amongst my friends.
Religion and politics is harder to tease out, I’m going to have to find ways of defining a person outside of what they explicitly provide. (Only one person in my 520+ friends declared their religion).
Outside of this, there’s this map I saw today that parses out the clusters of people we email with globally. It turns out we are clearly divided by culture and language. Even though the Internet allows us to connect globally, we only seem to expand regionally.
