Our search experiences are increasingly catered to our own bias and our own interests. Search roulette can be enabled to let you search using the profile catered to someone else’s searches.Their profile is anonymized but contains information about their demographics.
By searching and getting the return of searches catered to someone else, one can begin to see a shift in perspective that can occur even when thinking about even something as basic and seemingly straight forward as a single word concept.
Tactile Empathy Inducer for Reading About Death and Violence in Distant Places
I hooked up a vibration motor to a wristband that will vibrate when news stories containing death and violence are clicked on.
It’s easy to disassociate ourselves from what happens in the news. If we had a tactile reminder that someone felt pain as a result of the events, we might be more inclined to put ourselves in the position of the other.
The browser sends serial data to arduino using node.js The when the news story is clicked, the vibration motor pulses for a moment. If taken further, I would want to use some tet analysis to have the motor vibrate when keywords appear in a story.
