Analyzing my Text –

This week I logged my keystrokes; I was pretty excited about the potential results of this exercise. Unfortunately, my results were not at all interesting. All the words that I used often were entirely predictable: articles and prepositions, mostly.

More interesting to me were the keystrokes stripped out by the default code sample, the del keystrokes, enter and cmd keys. I envision using these to gain insight on keyboard shortcut effectiveness, typing accuracy, etc. Unfortunately, the amount of text I’ve logged so far just isn’t enough for any meaningful analysis. I plan to log more keystrokes the next two weeks and update this post with my new results.

I envision an interactive ‘mood-meter’ that uses not only matching with dictionaries for positive and negative turns, but interprets function keys (e.g. cmd, del, etc.) to decipher the nature (and productivity-level) of my current activities. What form this visualization would take remains to be seen.
