Clippings -- etc. mood/style/etc. visual inspiration. I like the mood/feeling conveyed in the collage you presented in class on Wednesday. It has more of an ethereal feeling. These images are much more "graphic" in style. It's not necessarily the look or feel I have in mind, but I was looking at ways bitmaps and vector art has been combined together well. I'm not always crazy about going through all these design magazines, etc... it feels like design porn, and sometimes I'll end up inadvertently doing something terribly derivative -- but it helps as a communication tool. Please excuse the fact that these photos were taken in terrible lighting.

From November's Metropolis: "public art" installations at Bloomberg's new HQ. Some are in corridors/areas of traffic.

Left, Base. Right, Designer's Republic. Designer's Republic's aesthetic is a bit to "rave" for me. I do think the overlay of flat vector graphics over photos intersting. I like the treatment by base -- the white masking over photo.

From this month's Wallpaper. Upon buying it and readiing it, I know why I never buy it. Feels like total style porn. Regardless, a few things caught my eye. Map on right has a bunch of dots (we were speaking about dots/dot matrix. I like this illustration on the right, especially the manhole covers. I started thinking about some transitions from above ground to below, starting with steam coming out of the manhole covers/subway grating. Thinking about moving from above to below ground, natural network to subway network...

Some line/vector art: 2 on left are from Surface magazine, on right, bedding by Zaha Hadid

Work by Stefan Sagmeister. One of his signature style, is his handwriting over photos, etc.
