Gordie’s Final Comm Lab Project (for now)

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Here is my final project for Comm Lab…for now. I had an idea about doing something with all the footage I shot on my first M5 trip, but all the time I lost this week to my scrambling around to my various doctor’s appointments, and work-work didn’t permit me the time to finish that project this week. So instead, I worked with AfterEffects to reveal the truth behind the Giants’ shocking upset of the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

Thanks to Marianne for all the knowledge, inspiration, and support, and to all my fellow first-years for allowing me to bask in their brilliance this semester. I consider myself very lucky to have been in this particular section of Comm Lab, as it permitted me to both learn alongside and collaborate with some of the brightest people in the first year class. It was an amazing experience!

Gordie works with AfterEffects

This is the project I did with AfterEffects. I was inspired by the great movie Swingers and by an encounter I had with Jeremy Roenick, then with the Flyers, in a South Jersey diner. He and his entourage came in while my friends and I were waiting for a table. The Flyers were playing the Rangers on the big screen TV in the waiting area; Roenick was missing the game because the night before he had his jaw broken while playing. As he scanned the TV trying to find out the score, I turned to him and said, “It’s 6-2 Flyers…they don’t appear to be missing you.” He stared at me blankly and just moved back to his party. My friends gave me props for needling one of the toughest guys in the NHL, but it didn’t take much in the way of courage to smartmouth a guy with his jaw wired shut who was likely zonked out on painkillers. So I guess this is my way of making up to him, and honoring one of the finest players in NHL history…and the greatest hockey player in video game history.
