Trash Talk  | 2007
Trash talk is an installation piece that consists of 5 objects: a paper bag, a plastic cup, a fake book, some pencils and a metal box, that react to people. This work is installed to look like an ordinary messy desk so that when people pass by, unaware that it is an installation, the objects are triggered by the motion of people passing by and react by moving. In this way, people get an unexpected new experience in this situation.

When we see interactive pieces, we are faced with the question ‘what am I supposed to do?’ Some interactive pieces require viewers to learn how to interact with them. Also, in front of what they know to be an interactive piece, people expect some sort of response because of the expectation of interactivity.

What if, in daily life, the objects around us react to us? People would trigger the objects without knowing that they are doing so (as there is no obvious user scenario) and would be surprised by the unexpected reactions from the objects. It might be an interesting and new experience. From these alternate ideas of the interactivity, this work was born.
