First Pcomp, Success!

By Mluck's Thursday class, we were able to make 5 modules.

We were able to get some good feedback from Mluck. He wasn't sure as to if the idea of "candles" were implied in our piece, since our candle modules do not go out as we blow on them. He liked the idea of these things being modular, being able to pass them around in class. Alice and I thought it'd be a good idea to have them in different heights to better get this effect across in Tom's class. Others seemed to appreaciate the flickering effect and the fact that they glowed even more as you blew on them. They really like the aesthetics of these modules.

A few improvements to come before Tom Igoe's Wednesday class.

  • build more protoboards and modules, we'll shoot for 9, since we have 9 tubes with us
  • cut off some of the tubes at diff heights
  • the switch needs to be built in. drill bigger holes in the back. these sticking out of the modules really bugged me when we presented
  • leave the bottom lid open for access and seal the top. the scotch tape just looks flimsy and aweful with the glowing light
  • debug those that don't work

    Breath Final, going...

    Today, Alice and I spent a good hour in the woodshop, using the jigsaw to cut up some hard cardboard material for our mockup model for the final. Realizing 2 hours later, that we didn't need them. Glorious failure... At least I got to learn how to use the scary jigsaw machine.

    Currently, building the model, full scale and I'm trying to model it out on maya to give an idea of its structure. We've actually only got 6 pinwheels in total, 3 on each side.

    It's done! But not quite yet. We still need to improve our code to get some better feedback with the inflation and deflation.
