ShadowBox Final Prototyping 03.31.06
G and I worked for hours to get our final prototyping box to get going. We got to see some great effects.
The setup in the box. To test.

Shadow Box
G got the arduino figured out for the servos. We now have a smooth movement and it's easily controlled by two pots. We got our laser cut mylar, attached to the motors and the projections were quite beautiful.
G's proud arduino board
Testing with two servos for now.

To come:
G is in Texas for the SouthBySouthWestInteractive for SpringBreak, I will connect more servos onto this structure. He had programmed pins 0-5, which gives us 6 in total. We have enough textures to experiment with but it's quite obvious that the simple ones work the best. I will also program the superbright LEDs to get a PWM code going so that the lights fade in and out with the movements.
More to come.

Shadow Box Update 03.04.06
Gilad and I met up to continue working on our shadow box.
We had our LEDs shipped from Hong Kong, had our sample pieces of mylar cut up and our servo motors programmed in a contained frame.
Gilad had been successful at getting the arduino board to work.
Some images from the testing.

Interactive Architecture, Testing Materials
Gilad and I met up last night to test out the fabrics that he got.
Some very interesting effects. Will post more later.

On Interactive Architecture

I've always felt like physical computing could be stepped up to the next level, to an architectural scale. ITP alums such as James Clar and Inbar Barak are a few that have become pioneers with this concept.

Gilad Lotan and I have decided to jump on a project on a larger scale. Initially, we will start out small and modular so that we could simply multiply our processes.
Lots of ideas thrown out, sketches, disagreements, agreements...
- time, shadows
- interactive furniture
- "networked cracks"
- contained textures, patterns, mosaics
- textures out of text
Gilad insisted that we try out some fabric-like material that would be pulled and pushed with lights attached to the ends.
We both really liked the idea of how multiples of textures and patterns (even natural cracks) could possibly come together to create its own shape or give a 3d-like feeling in a space or a wall.
We will start this week with a bunch of experiments using fabrics and LEDs. Pull and push of LEDs on sticks!
