Proposal

PLAYHOO

A toy. A musical instrument. A whole lot of fun.

Inspiration

Merlin

ABOUT MERLIN
Merlin (sometimes known as Merlin, the Electronic Wizard) was a handheld electronic game first made by Parker Brothers in 1976. Merlin is notable as one of the earliest and most popular handheld games, selling over 5 million units during its initial run, as well as one of the most long-lived, remaining popular throughout the 1980s. A version of the game has been recently re-released by the Milton Bradley Company.

Phase 1: Early Design

Our early concept was to create a musical toy inspired by Merlin.

We decided early on a couple of design constraints. We wanted no more than 9 buttons, we wanted it to run off of one 9 volt battery, and the final product should fit in the palm of the user's hand.

Phase 2: Prototype Development

We began the prototyping process with a simple goal in mind: to be able to use a potentiometer to change the pitch of a sound emitting from a small speaker.

We have begun to design the enclosure.
