Group2Group 2 Stefanie Wuschitz, Justin Downs and Patricia Oakim From viewers to users Proposal: Our proposal is to change the viewer's interaction with a TV set. In doing this we hope to make the user more aware of the relationship between the TV and user. We are dealing with two aspects of the TV's language. One is content based and the other deals with the physical communication of the TV. When looking at the content side of the TVs language we hope to emphasize the subjective nature of TV programming and the original human source of the information. In terms of the physical interaction we want to look at the social and personal relationships that the TV interface allows us. We are going to try different approaches for each of these questions. For the first question of content awareness we hope to change the tint color of the TV screen to reflect the political tendency of the channel. Using the color controls on the front of the TV, we hope to send an input voltage based on the channel selection buttons to set the color for each individual channel. For instance, Fox 5 would be "coded" with red tint making the subjective (republican) nature of its programming explicit. Or with channel 7 a blue tint would be added to reflect the democratic nature of its programming. The other physical approach to the project will implement a sound sensor. This sensor will be able to distinguish the viewing style of an audience. So if there is a conversation in the room, our TV will start talking, making it come "alive". When we go to a movie theater the viewing experience consists of a silent uninterrupted participation with the image. Compared to that, the TV functions inside people's houses and has a big impact on the conversations and interactions among people in a room. While watching TV, people feel free to talk to each other or leave the room anytime. The TV doesn't require the viewer's constant attention. Our television will demand attention using a playback from a voice chip linked into the output of the TV's speakers. I want to track this vibration with a sensetiv piezzo microphone to trigger 10 different switches by 10 different notes. I want to try to connect the switches to a phone. You could call someone then, by playing a certain melody on the flute. The lighter version would be, to take an african kalimba, because here, already the touch of tines clould close a circuit and by that function as a switch. |
