Our idea is to use a project which Patricia worked on for her ICM midterm (Digital Milkshake) and turn it into a pcomp project too. On the "digital milkshake" the user can select buttons (milk, chocolate, ice cream and shake), mix the ingredients and make "milk shake" on the screen. The idea for the pcomp project is to transform the buttons into real things, like a bottle of milk, containers of chocolate syrup and ice cream, and a blender (it can be a fake cardboard blender with a switch on it). The user will be able to hold those elements and control the video on a screen in order to make a "digital milkshake".
Production Plan 1 - Try to get arduino and processing working together switches. We are going to get the Processing code for the milkshake that we already have and make it work only with switches. 2 - Design and build the interface. 3 - Replace the switches for the interface sensors and make them work. 4 - Shoot our own video to represent milk, chocolate, ice cream, and shake (the current program uses images found online. Nov. 10th, Second Meeting _> After our meeting today it seems that Group Milkshake may have to change their name! This meeting was a very important one. Over the past few days we have been casually discussing and thinking about the direction of the project. What exactly do we want to focus on? How will our interface improve on the already existing one? Essentially, we weren't coming up with any satisfactory answers to this problem. So we met to work out some of the technical aspects of the project._< First we re-did the serial lab so that we could better understand how the the arduino and Processing work together. We also wanted to try and understand the code that is used in Processing. Second we started to look and Patricia's code and see how we can modify it. This is especially difficult because we are not strong programmers. We decided to ask another student who has used the arduino to control video in Processing for some advice. Last we discussed the interface and the direction we wanted to go in with the project. Patricia was not statisfied with simply using the adruino to control the milkshake program. As we talked, we decided that the video should teach something. Instead of just making a milkshake we want to teach children were the milk comes from. As we changed our approach an interface presented itself. A cow. We could use a cow to control the video images that appeared. Thus, by playing with the cow a child could trigger a video that shows how the cow is milked or what a farm is like.
Nov. 13th-Nov. 19th _>This week we have been doing a combination of things. First we have been addressing the technical aspects of the project. Using the arduino and serial combinationm we have been developing a code that will work with Processing. This code should allow us to change video using a switch._< Secondly, we have been discussing the interface and application. We ordered a stuffed puppet cow from Target.com. The switches will be located in the body, the nose, and the right arm. This will activate a video on the screen. Now we must decide what that video will be! Nov. 21st -Nov. 26th (Thanksgiving) _> Unfortunately, we were not able to meet very much during this week due to the holidays. However, we thought and discussed alot about the video. We want to have three videos that correspond with the three switches. One will show a farm the other animals or "friends" of the cow, and the third will be about milking the cow. _< Nov. 27th - Dec. 3rd _> This week we made clear decisions on the interface and also divided up some of the work. Interface There will be three videos and menus to go with each of these videos. The menus will tell the user what to do. For example, it would tell the user to squeeze the stomach if it wants to see were milk comes from. Work *Patrica will work on the processing and arduino codes. * Liz will work on the making the switches and putting them in the cow.
* Beak will gather the video images and write a script for the menu clips.
Dec. 4th - Dec. 10th _> This is the week when we must get everything together and working. The video has been shot. The switches are finished and the arduino side of the code is working. A Processing code is working with the switches but it is not a final code. We can not create a final version of the code until we edit the video together. Baek will edit the video over the weekend and we should be able to put everything together by Tuesday._> Dec. 11th - Dec. 13th _> We are down to the last few days. The video and the cow are working well. However, the code is another issue. We have a working code which switches the video images. But, it does not stop playing the previous audio clips while the new audio clips are playing. Since audio is very important to this project's interface, we seem to have a very big problem. Hopefully, it will be solved before class tomorrow. |
