a soft armor for females

After thinking about it for weeks, I finally saw that I was subconsciously inspired by a specific story about my female friend. As she started dating a man, over the 3 years, her dressing became very revealing though she professes that such a style is not her taste. She became anorexic as well. Many teenage girls and women thesedays find themselves going on inhuman diets and dressing more often than not to please men who often take advantage of them, sexually and emotionally. These women are angry or have low self-esteem; and many do not know where to direct such "bad" feelings.

The soft armor starts out quite bare. As the wearer clenches her fists (the act of clenching fists represents the aforementioned anger), pieces of stiff armor-parts will move forward to cover her body gradually. Expression of anger protects her from being too vulnerable. It may make her attractive in a different way, for I intend to make this armor subtly beautiful. For example, the vertical line that runs down her upper body, and the detail that this line is curved in and out here and there are beautiful.

This is a cross-project between the wearable and mechanism classes.
the mechanical parts in the drawing:
  • PINK - motor
  • BLACK - gears
  • BLUE - pulleys
  • RED - rubberband for pulley
  • YELLOW - a platform on which a group of gears and pulley will be situated together, so as to make sure that the gears' teeth will be level with one another and enmesh easily.
    the female body in drawing:
  • LIGHT GREEN - the parts that are relatively immobile; reference to Design for Wearability research, Carnegie Melon University
  • DARK GREEN - contour of a female wearer

This is the palm of my glove. Soft switch is sewed onto a side of the upper index finger and the side of the lower thumb. These are the two spots that touch each other when I make a fist. Any other spots are those that also come into contact with one another when I'm holding, touching, writing, etc. img of glove palm side
