Response to Chapter 5

As mentioned in the chapter, one of the main reasons why the current president of South Korea won the election in 2002 was the use of the Net. At that time, especially young people were not in favor of past presidents and believed that Roh Moo Hyun would a better choice because of his political image as being far different from them. Young people in Korea wanted to see the country being changed by more open and even fresh candidate.

In order to attract young generation, Roh used the Net wisely since they were the ones who were able to access the Internet. And this made Roh much more attractive than other candidates. In South Korea, there will be another presidential election by the end of this year. Possible candidates all know that the Net will be one of the main influences for voters to make a decision, and they already started campaign on the Internet. It would be interesting to see how this plays out from now on.
