1_Goal

Making a domino of circuits. We decided not to ask users to interact but instead to make the circuits respond to each other. Interaction could occur between the circuits and the user can feel the interactivity emotionally from the electrophysical action.
During our research, we noticed that many physical computing related projects focused on the technology too much so that it makes them lose their initial concept. Therefore we came up with the idea of focusing on narrative using LOW TECH and BASIC PARTS, with less interactivity. Moreover, we want to make something FUN with simple elements. It wouldn't be just technically advanced "ART".

2_Context

Each element in the circuit will have it’s own role besides being a part of circuit. We are making a domino of circuits which means the last part of each circuit will be trigger to next. All the circuits together create a scene of the ocean. Wires, microchips, and motors will be used in making image beyond their normal functions. When the domino of circuits has finished one round, it makes an analogue counter add 1 which would tell how many people have been visiting our submarine.

3_Target Users

ITPers who are always around the 4th floor, with their laptops, coffee and serious looks, and other people who understand that electrical components can tell a story.

4_User Scenario

People would drink a coffee or work with their laptop on the table. It should be just circuits that working by themselves. The only thing that the user can do is put something over the first trigger (a photosensor under the glass). If there's a heavy shadow caused by laptop or a cup, it would be the starting point of the circuit. All we expect about user is just watching the process happening and HAVE FUN! After a long time, the counter value may also be interesting.

5_Hardware Design

We want to embed our story circuit (story board) in a table and cover it with glass. It will look just like a normal table in the ITP lounge on the 4th floor.

6_Problems

We were too ambitious when we were planning to build this. We didn't know that soldering would take so many hours and also it was hard work than we thought. We both should have understood more about using mechanical technics. Now we know the problems that we got, so we want to pursue this work for this

semester.
