Concept: Hands are symbol of human life. In mordern society is too tough to live in peace. I would like to know what is difficult things to human and how they overcome the corcerns.

Body: I would like to talk about the lines on our palms. In Korea, some people believe that lines on one’s palm show his/her destiny. And they say the lines were made for us when we were born, so we have no control of our life. However, others suggest that our destiny can be changed if we try hard and have a faith in ourselves.

Conclusion: Many people have variety concerns and lots of way to solve the problems.

Cameras are Eyes. Cameras everywhere means Eyes everywhere. People will talk with people in everywhere through cameras.

McLuhan’s most widely known work, Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man (1964), is a pioneering study in media theory. McLuhan’s insight was that a medium affects the society in which it plays a role not by the content delivered over the medium, but by the characteristics of the medium itself.

First, if cameras in everywhere, eyes would be in everywhere. Eyes are symbol of human emotions, so people will communicate with people in everywhere through cameras. McLuhan’s suggested that all media technology is extension of human functions.

Now, many people have smart phones, which have cameras. As a result, people communicate with pictures and visual images instead of words. This is extension of human functions.

Second, if cameras watch inside of human mind everywhere, it would be very interesting. High technology cameras also would be detecting human behaviors with some specific characters.

Someday I am so exhausted so do not like to talk to somebody. I will show my opinion and words through high technology cameras.

As a result, cameras everywhere means communicating people to people anytime and everywhere. Measuring human mind cameras everywhere means understanding each other without any misunderstanding. That will be fantastic.

Week 7 Cameras Everywhere, examples and commentary.

Camera is extension of human eyes.

Camera can do in entertainment and crime prevention parts.

From my experience, when I worked for broadcasting company as a director. I made an entertainment TV program with endoscope. Small pictures stick inside miniature house and watch the pictures through the endoscope. Panelists guess correctly.

In Korea, camera exist every small streets to observe criminals so crime rate is decrease.

In Korea, Internet and camera are very popular so, “best face” contest is popular. Women take her face with cellular phone camera by herself and post the picture on the Internet. Netizen have a vote to select a first winner.

Midterm Proposal

Memory Old Media

Concept: New Media is convenience but old media also valuable because it has memory. When appear new media, many people throw away old media. We should preserve old media with specific memory. For example,

I-PHONE (New Media)   =>   Telephone, Camera, electronic calculator (Old Media)

Alvin Chang

This is my calculator — old and new. I need a calculator because I work as a sports writer and I often work with statistics. Usually for work, I use Microsoft Excel to do all my calculations. But, for basic calculations, I like to use an actual calculator. I used to use my iPad calculator because it was fun to use. But I recently switched back to an old-school Casio calculator. So I guess I’ve devolved backward. On a practical level, I like using this old-school calculator because I’m faster with it. I grew up using these, and I like the tactile feeling of pushing each key. But on a more whimsical note, I think it’s cool how such a simple, $5 machine can calculate complex mathematical functions — and it’s powered by light! So I guess I just like keeping physical calculators around.

Here is my discman – that used to skip everytime I went running after the monkeys in my backyard in singapore.

Chien Yu Lin

My old media and new media is paper and email. I used to write letters to my friends by paper and send to them by post office. However, I only use emails right now, because it is fast and convenient. I sometime miss the moments that I have to wait to get my letters from postman.

Memory museums

Filed under: COLLECTIVE STORYTELLING — admin @ 7:52 pm

Two short ideas in response to visits to Brooklyn Historical Society, The New York City Reliquary and the Tenement Museum.

Concept

Lives of ordinary people and simple physical objects.

Ideas

First, there are many political events in Korea at modern time. It is difficult to preserve the persons concerned opinion but this data will be valuable for future generations to understand what is fact. For example, the fifth republic event, which was self-coup. If I make testimony of voice from the persons concerned in museum, it would be realistic data for future generations to give define whose opinion is correct.

Second, there are many Korean-style houses in center of seoul. Mayor of seoul is worried about the Korean-style houses between preserving and developing. Now, some people are using the houses as a restaurant, which is just repaired inner part. I think, Mayor of seoul should select some Korean-style houses to make museum, which will be valuable cultural properties for future generations and a good tourist route for foreigners.

Face Tracking Ideas

Interactivity between face emotions and funny visual images

1.     From my experience, when I made a broadcasting program as a TV director, I was thinking too much time to make just one story line because TV network and time is limited.  Also, when I watch a movie as a viewer, I was unsatisfied with one story line, which is not abundance story.  As a result, if directors send broadcasting programs in variety plots and viewers control broadcasting programs by themselves, they would be satisfied with TV programs.

2.     The goal of my project is to create a making interaction plots, interactivity with face emotions, response of funny visual images. For the more, viewers will choose and control their funny visual images by their face emotions. It will be very useful to make variety story lines.

3.     The viewers will choose their favorite images by face response.  For example, a viewer watches several category funny pictures, which will move randomly.  The viewer response a funny image while watching the image, face will move and funnier images will be show up.

4.     The viewers will save time to watch TV program. The viewers will skip visual images, which is not interesting. The viewers will make their own story lines with their response.
