This is Your Brain on Music - Foot Tapping

Response

When vetting a piece of music, rhythm is paramount in determining if it's, well, good.

I listened to the Buddy Holly track mentioned in the reading. I liked it but after the chorus was repeated, I lost interest. And this is what I found most interesting about this chapter. I know the music taste I have but I do not think I could describe it or the nuances I enjoy to another person. This chapter provides a way to begin having that conversation.

Another interesting point mentioned, was the section on the Gestaltists and their experiments regarding identifying melodies. In the movie Inception, there a theme running throughout the movie. It turns out the theme is composed from a section of the main song, Edith Piaf’s “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien, that is slowed down Demo. The melody manipulation wasn't apparent at first viewing but after watching that demo I can't help but notice every time I hear it.
