User Persona

The user may be travelling with other associates for a client meeting or a conference and may need to ensure that their associates wake up at a cerain time in the morning. The user may not know what time zone they are currently in and may arrive tired and unable to function with complete thinking capacity.

User Scenario

The user enters the room, finds a clock with no alarm and a plackard next to the clock. The plackard explains that the alarm can be set through using the TV. When the user turns on the TV, the station will always be turned to "Channel 1", the Hotel service channel. Using the remote, similar to a DVD remote, the user presses the up and down arrows and the Select button to choose the option "Set alarm". On the next screen, the current time and time zone are displayed and the user can set the time they wish the alarm to go off using the numbers on the remote. Using the up and down arrows, the user specifies AM or PM. When done setting the time, they press Select on the remote, which takes them to the next option on the screen. There the user selects how they wish to be woken up, the default value is 'Alarm off'. Using the right and left arrows, the user chooses the alarm mode.

If the user so chooses, they can enter into Advanced Options, where they can change the time zone, add other guests to their alarm group, and set up the alarm for multiple days. To change the time zone, the user selects the menu option, where they are taken to a screen where they can scroll through the differnt time zones and select their preference (The hotel's time zone is listed at the bottom of the screen). When they are finished, they can choose to go back to Advanced Options. To add other guests to the alarm group, the user must enter in the last name of the guest they wish to add (using a graphical keyboard that they navigate with the arrows and Select button). The screen then brings up a list of guests with that last name, and the user must select the guest to add to their group. Once the user is done entering in names, they are notified that the other guests will receive a phone call notifying them of the user's request to add them to the group. To set up the multiple night stay option, they select the menu item, and using the number pad enter in how many days they wish the current alarm settings to be applied.

Once the user is finished making all the adjustments, they select the 'Done' menu option and they are given a confirmation screen with the time and alarm mode that they set. If the alarm mode is set to 'Alarm off', the confirmation screen displays in large letters, "ALARM NOT SET". The confirmation screen stays up for a few moments and the user is returned back to the main hotel services channel. If at any time the user changes the channel, whatever had been set at that time will remain in affect, and a small confirmation banner will appear at the bottom of the screen.

If another guest has added the user to their alarm group, they will receive an automated telephone call notifying them of the other guest's request and instructing them to turn on the TV and confirm that they wish to be added to the group. When they first turn on the TV, a message will appear with the other guest's name and the alarm time they have set and ask the user to specify whether or not they want to join the group by selecting yes or no. If the user changes the channel at this screen, the message will remain on channel 1 until an option is chosen. If nothing is chosen, the user is not added to the other guest's alarm group.

When the user checks out, all of their alarm preferences are reset to the defauts, so that the next guest staying in that room will not be disturbed by some one else's alarm settings.
