“The Art of Interactive Design” by Chris Crawford - Week 1

For someone who hasn't had any experience with creating interactive media, I felt like I was missing the point of the article. I kept trying to figure out why he was spending so much time asking and defining what 'interactivity' meant when I thought I already knew the definition. However, as I read more I found that his definition and mine were basically the same which made me feel slightly better. It was interesting read / learn about the how important perceived interactivity is not by the person who is expecting it but by the person / thing with whom / which you want to interact.

"Emotion and design: Attractive things work better." by D. A. Norman - Week 3

What I take away from this article, is Norman's suggestion to combine functionality and aesthetics. I think he makes a great point. If there are two telephones that both work great, that are both comfortable and have the same features but one is far more (subjectively) attractive than the other, I think I would choose to use the more attractive one. However, his point and research really rings true when considering interface design. It does make sense to make the interface as user-friendly as possible. If research shows that the user is more likely to overlook small annoyances or problems if they are happier because the general design of the interface is easy to figure out, that would be the way to go.
