My final project for ICM is an interactive data visualization of ITP Class of 2014.
Since we got here, everybody was amazed about how we are people from such different backgrounds, from all around the world and all with similar interest: ITP. I decided to collected this data and create a way to browse through people and discover patterns regarding origin and background.
My first idea was to place people in cartesian coordinates (background-origin). I also idealized a card containing extra information for each person and the exact words they gave me for each parameter.
Note: the x-axis is far from home, according my western point of view. Also, it is not restrictedly measured, it is just clustered by continents.
I wanted to link points closer to each other, but it didn’t show any other relevant information. Therefore my alternative was to link people according to clusters in the axis. So, here are the screenshots of different possibilities. Initial screen:

Liked it? But the most fun part is to actually play with the zoom and panning. You can play with it: ITP Class of 2014 (pan is left click and zoom can be made with right click or pressing ctrl/command). It might be slow when connections are on because of the web rendering mode.
Also, I’m working on transforming it for kinect so we can control with it gestures. =)
