Hieroglyphica of Horapollo
Electric Catfish in the Nile
The Hieroglyphica of Horapollo used a hieroglyph of an electric catfish
to refer to a "man who had saved many in the sea". It is believed that
the ancient Egyptians considered the electric catfish the protector of
fish because if one was caught in a net and let off a charge the fisherman
would drop the net and all the fish caught in it would escape.
