Thesis Presentation
thesis abstract:
To explore the relationship between technology and nature and how humans employ technology to bring the two paths together into an integrated future. My thesis is an artistic attempt towards questioning such a future.
personal statement:
Ecologists such as Arne Naess, Joanna Macey and Murray Bookchin refer to nature as an outside place that is not created by humans. Following this belief, I wanted to explore to what extent nature is a cultural construction and the way we perceive it through science, art and exploration.
I've done some brainstorming on subjects such as to what extent DNA recombination is ethical, whether nature has an initial harmony, whether nature can be a binary- type science controlled by humans, whether the ultimate goal is to be immortal and to explore my personal relationship to nature.
During my thesis I wish to explore these issues, relating to culture, science, aesthetics and emotions.
project description:
I am still exploring project ideas for the thesis.
Project ideas:
1. Creating an installation, performance or object for people to experience an aesthetic DNA synthesizing kit
2. Teaching people about DNA masking
3. Creating a synthetic garden consisting of synthesized organisms and plants
4. Mating Calls- creating a location-based cellphone project, where specific mating calls would be downloaded to cellphones, for the purpose of trying to attract species to that area.
5. Micro-bots plants mini plant terrariums embedded on micro-bots which move towards light in the room, as it moves through the day.
