here are the edited (and not finished) reports of my soundart pieces explorations.
hearing - physiological condition
listening psychological act
letting yourself go, creating tighter bonding with the environment, navigate accross counciousness.
Max Neuhaus piece on Times Sq., between broadway and 7th,
created a bubble, not outside, far away from the place , but inside, even more involved by that space and actions, that environment. We are right in the middle of manhatan´s big fuzz and time as gained another pace.
the streets sounds become more pleasant, unseeingly melted with the monter's constant hum. Like a siren that is going away but never leaves the place.
the drone.
unconsciously my choice for the subsequent installation was (imho) perfect!
though both installations isolate us, one lives from the interaction with the surrounding environment (external), while the other the environment becames the sound space, allowing a three dimensional navigation in the sound.
La Monte Young's Dreamhouse:
the joy of interaction with the physicality of sound. a seemingly constant wave .
or how easy it is to leave a room a be in a playground with sound waves.
sound frequencies fill up the room, yes they do fill it, and we noticed that just by peeking at the door before we entered the floor. there's an empty room, purple light coming in from its purple tinted windows, four white blocks one in each corner, each carrying its speaker. As you enter the room, puffs, blankets and a strong low frequency pull you to the ground and slower your metabolism. Deep breath and gazing the infinite surrounded by 4 walls and a much more powerfull force coming from the 4 corners. A constant rush of sound crossing your brain, your brain and ears become a crossroad of sound frequencies, revealing the interaction with sound on time and space. body movements slowly become synthesis control.
ok..i managed to do the task involved but i'm not so happy with the results.
I tried to make a tecnho wave mixer of somesort but i did find hard mixing all the 3 waves and trying to keep their interactions close to what i wanted. result? dark-slow-noise-tedious-beats...
there are 3 waves modulated by amplitude in an additive synth. press 'q', 'w' and 'r'!
(please don´t listen in the morning) could also be the title of this post.
my synths exploration (so far) attracted me to extreme frequencies.. very low and/or very high... keep your hand on the volume level (turn it in both directions, please)
i've been also enjoying the rhythmic structures and clicks from "overflows"(?).
the following tracks(?) are the result of my wave shapping--modulating experiences using max-msp~ .
I didn´t manage to follow all instructions in the tutorial.. but had a lot of fun experimenting!
As i kept loosing myself in patches and waves i couldn´t keep up with 10secs time frame.. sometimes there are longer and shorter versions of recordings from the same patches.
hav'fun!
here are some sound recording experiences in the timeline!
*an extremely immersive experience based on recorded sounds featuring sinks! trains! caughing! water drops! bells! and post-office ambients!*
wanna buy?!
Around the beggining of the 20th century the changes were cathastrophic in everything, cars allowed individuals to cross countries in incredible fast speeds, machines were manufacturing at full throttle ending consumers individualization, empires were collapsing to the power of the people.
arts were more prolyphic and rebelled than ever!
As a location for my hearing exercises i've chosen my bedroom. Perhaps this wasn´t such a good idea after all, after the exercises i just felt a terrible headache and you'll soon understand why..
I really enjoyed reading this text and the definitions and exercises proposed by the author seem quite interesting.
I enjoyed with the proposal of listening beyond our time/reality; to be open to every sound wave, every reality; to be aware of changes and interactions through that reality and let those change the way one feels it... isn´t that a new reality then?
